Yala National Park

Sri Lanka's most visited national park and the world's best place to see a wild leopard — Block 1 alone holds a density of roughly one leopard per square kilometre.

Udawalawe National Park

Open grassland plains built around the Udawalawe Reservoir, offering some of the most reliable wild elephant sightings anywhere in Sri Lanka.

  • Resident Elephant Herds With an estimated population of several hundred elephants, sightings are near-guaranteed year-round, unlike more seasonal parks.
  • Elephant Transit Home A rehabilitation centre for orphaned elephant calves, with feeding sessions open to visitors before the elephants are eventually released back into the wild.

Minneriya National Park

Built around an ancient reservoir constructed in the 3rd century AD, Minneriya is best known for one of the largest wild elephant gatherings on the planet.

  • "The Gathering" During the dry season, several hundred elephants converge on the shrinking reservoir to drink and graze — one of Asia's greatest wildlife spectacles.
