Ella

A small hill-country town wrapped in tea fields, and the most photographed stretch of Sri Lanka's hill country railway.

  • Nine Arch Bridge A colonial-era railway bridge built in 1921 entirely from rock, brick, and cement — no steel — set among dense jungle and tea plantations.
  • Little Adam's Peak An easy 1,141m hike through tea plantations, named after its larger namesake, with 360-degree views over Ella Gap.

Nuwara Eliya

Known as "Little England" for its cool climate and colonial-era architecture, this hill station sits at the heart of Ceylon tea country.

Horton Plains

A UNESCO World Heritage plateau at over 2,100m, where cloud forest gives way to open grassland — and one of the most dramatic viewpoints in Sri Lanka.

  • World's End A sheer 870-metre cliff drop with views stretching to the southern coast on a clear morning — best reached with an early start.
  • Baker's Falls A 20-metre waterfall along the plateau's circular walking trail, set within Sri Lanka's largest remaining area of cloud forest.

Knuckles Mountain Range

Named for its 34 peaks, which resemble the knuckles of a clenched fist, this UNESCO-listed range is one of Sri Lanka's richest biodiversity hotspots.

  • Cloud Forest Trekking Trails wind through misty peaks, hidden waterfalls, and traditional villages such as Meemure, largely untouched by mass tourism.
