Pickup in Colombo and a drive north (roughly 4.5 hours) to Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka's first ancient capital.

A full day exploring the ruins of a capital that flourished for over a thousand years, still an active site of Buddhist pilgrimage today.

  • Ruwanwelisaya, the "Great Stupa," built by King Dutugemunu in the 2nd century BC

A longer drive south from the hills down to the coast (roughly 5-6 hours), arriving at the historic fort town of Galle.

A full day exploring this UNESCO-listed Dutch colonial fort town, one of the best-preserved examples of a fortified city built by European colonial powers in South Asia.
